Me suggestion is do what you can when you can. Wiring is pretty involving, the price of a new harness is not so bad but if you have to take it to a shop then they are going to ask you for a arm and I dont mean for a handshake! From past experience it is much easier to connect the harness to the engine outside the car (meaning pulling the engine). I have done it both ways by when I say easier I mean feeding it thru the wire wall. You also have to remove the plate that is on the other side of the fire wall that holds the EFI harness on the ECU side. Alot of the problem that stem from electrical lead right back to the fact of add-on over the year and BIG heat the comes off of the engine in that small engine bay. If you are consider replacing connector my advise is to solder them in or depinning the connector. That way if you have to remove it for some reason down the road then it is not as much of a issue. When you go to do it take a lot of pictures and if possible have a friend with a Z to bring there by for help and reference.
